Newie payments are processed through Stripe. Payment method availability depends on your business country, customer location, service type, device support, and Stripe eligibility.

Installment plans are eligible because they use scheduled billing.

Managing Accepted Payment Methods

Manage accepted payment methods from Settings → Accepted Payment Methods where the setting is available for your account and region. From there, you can control whether card / Apple Pay, AU Bank Account where available, and Buy Now Pay Later are allowed for new purchases. Changes do not affect existing customers or billing agreements. Some payment methods require extra setup in Stripe before they can be used. If Stripe asks for a website and you do not have one, you can use a social media profile URL instead where Stripe accepts it.
BNPL starts off until it is enabled. It can be enabled from Settings → Accepted Payment Methods or from the Buy Now Pay Later option on an eligible one-off service. Once BNPL is enabled on the account, new one-off services default to BNPL on. You can still turn it on or off for each eligible one-off service from the service edit screen. In Newie, customers must be in the same country as your business to use Afterpay/Clearpay, Klarna, or Affirm.
The only payment method controlled from an individual service is Buy Now Pay Later. Card / Apple Pay and AU Bank Account availability are controlled from Settings → Accepted Payment Methods, not from the service edit screen.
Tap to Pay must be enabled separately and is only available in the Newie iOS app on a supported iPhone. It is not available in the web app or Mac app. After your profile is fully complete and Stripe is connected, Newie can prompt setup from the Home screen. You can dismiss that prompt and enable Tap to Pay later from Settings, or enable it directly from the share service flow.
Affirm requires the customer to be in the same country as your business and is also subject to Stripe and Affirm eligibility checks, including your business category. If Affirm is not available for the account, the Affirm option may show as “not available” in Newie even though other BNPL methods may still be available where eligible. The industry/business category set during Stripe setup can affect this; Klarna or Afterpay/Clearpay may remain available as alternative BNPL options where eligible.
If accepted payment methods can’t be changed, contact support for help with payment method availability or Stripe setup.
Payment Rules to Remember
  • Newie does not support PayPal, BPAY, or split payments across multiple cards as Newie-managed payment methods.
  • BNPL is different from Newie installment plans.
  • BNPL funds you upfront for the purchase amount, less applicable fees. Newie installment plans pay you as each installment is collected.
  • In Newie, customers must be in the same country as your business to use Afterpay/Clearpay, Klarna, or Affirm. Affirm also depends on Stripe eligibility and your business category.
  • BECS payments can take up to 3 business days to process. Newie creates the payment when the customer submits the bank payment and treats it as paid unless it later fails. Zapier does not expose a Payment Created trigger, so users cannot trigger automations at bank-payment submission. Payment Paid fires when the bank confirms the payment and the related invoice is marked Paid. Failed BECS payments can retry automatically up to 2 times when Auto Retry is active.
  • Eftpos-only cards work for one-off Tap to Pay payments but not subscriptions.
  • Tap to Pay is only available in the Newie iOS app on a supported iPhone; it is not available in the web app or Mac app.

International Payments

Customers can pay from outside your business country if their card or payment method is accepted. The customer is charged in the service selling currency. Their bank or card issuer may charge a currency conversion or international transaction fee. Newie does not add a fee solely because a customer is overseas. Standard Newie transaction fees still apply. If the payment is received in a different currency to your payout currency, the international transaction fee listed in the fee table may apply. BNPL has separate eligibility rules: in Newie, customers must be in the same country as your business to use Afterpay/Clearpay, Klarna, or Affirm. If a customer sees a charge amount that is slightly different from expected, compare the invoice amount in Newie with the amount shown by the customer’s bank. If Newie shows the expected service price, the customer’s bank may have converted the amount or charged an international transaction fee. If Newie shows the unexpected amount, contact support with the customer name and charge date. Last updated: 2026-05-31
