Understanding Service Types
Newie has three setup entry points when creating a service: Subscription, One-Off Purchase, and Installment Plan. The Subscription entry point can create either an ongoing subscription or a fixed-term subscription depending on the Number of Payments setting. These are purchase and billing setups, not delivery methods. For example, a subscription can be delivered in person, online, by a human, by an automated system, or through a downloadable resource. If you’re not sure which type to use, start with Choose the Right Service Type.Subscription
Recurring billing for ongoing memberships, retainers, coaching, classes, support, or fixed-term programs with a set number of payments.
One-Off Service
One invoice and payment for single sessions, appointments, workshops, downloads, once-off fees, and upfront packages.
Installment Plan
A fixed total split into scheduled payments for high-ticket packages, annual programs, or setup fees paid over time.
| Service Type | Billing | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Subscription | Recurring billing at regular intervals. Each billing event creates an invoice, and successful payments mark those invoices paid. Use Unlimited payments for an ongoing subscription, or set a fixed number of payments for a fixed-term subscription. | Ongoing memberships, retainers, coaching, and consistently delivered services; or fixed-term programs, term packages, 6-week or 12-week services, and prepaid blocks paid over time. |
| One-Off Service | One invoice and payment, no recurring billing. Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) can be enabled on eligible one-off services, so customers can pay in installments through the BNPL method while you are funded upfront, less applicable fees. | Single sessions, appointments, workshops, downloads, once-off fees, and 3-month, 6-month, or 12-month packages paid upfront. |
| Installment Plan | Fixed total split into scheduled installment invoices and payments | Large fixed-price purchases split over time, such as high-ticket packages, annual programs, or setup fees paid across scheduled installments |
BNPL vs Installment Plans: BNPL is available on eligible one-off services and funds you upfront for the purchase amount, less applicable fees. Installment Plans collect each scheduled payment over time, and you receive each payment as it is made.
Creating Services
Creating a Subscription Service
A subscription service bills customers on a recurring schedule. Customers often prefer a manageable recurring amount instead of a large one-off purchase, and you can build predictable revenue when you deliver value consistently. This works well for coaching, memberships, retainers, classes, support, and ongoing access. Ongoing subscriptions and fixed-term subscriptions use the same setup path: choose Subscription when creating the service. Use Number of Payments to decide whether the subscription runs until cancelled or ends after a fixed number of payments.Basic Setup
- Open Newie → tap Sell → tap Services → tap New Service
- Select Subscription as the billing type
- Enter a Service Name - the title customers will see
- Set the Price and Billing Period. Billing period options include Day, Week, 2 Weeks, 4 Weeks, 6 Weeks, 12 Weeks, Month, Year, or Custom
- Toggle Available for Sale to make the service purchasable
Optional Features
The following can be added to a subscription service:- Description: A short description of the service
- Add Fee to Price: Increases the price so that transaction fees are included. The customer sees a single, all-inclusive price
- Number of Payments: Set to Unlimited (subscription continues until cancelled) or a fixed number of payments for fixed-term subscriptions
- Setup Fee: A one-time fee charged immediately when a new customer purchases, even if subscription billing starts later
- Billing Starts: Choose when subscription payments start - on the date customers purchase, or a delayed, fixed, or rolling start date
- Intro Pricing: Customers start with an intro price for a limited period, then automatically move to the main price. Intro pricing follows the service’s Billing Starts setting, so the intro period begins when subscription billing begins. Intro types include Pay Upfront, Pay As You Go, and Discounted
- Terms of Service: Customers agree to your terms before purchase. Terms are fully customisable - use Newie’s default terms or add your own custom terms. An additional 0.4% fee applies when Terms of Service is enabled
- Overdue Assistant: Automatically follows up when a subscription or installment plan has 2+ overdue invoices, or an invoice 7+ days overdue, and handles the back-and-forth so you can recover payment faster. Works best when Terms of Service are enabled
- Welcome Email: Customers receive the Welcome Email immediately after purchase or sign up. Customers can reply to your email address
- Digital Download: The purchase confirmation email includes a download link to a digital file (eBook, PDF, Excel)
- Customers Can Pause: When enabled, customers may pause their subscription without contacting you by selecting a pause end date. Make sure this matches the terms and expectations for that service.
- Customers Can Cancel: When enabled, customers may cancel immediately or schedule a cancellation without contacting you. Make sure this matches the terms and expectations for that service.
- Available for Sale: Customers can purchase the service. Services are only accessible by direct link unless added to the Store
Creating One-Off Services
One-off services are single-purchase items with no recurring billing. Ideal for single sessions, appointments, one-time purchases, or digital downloads.Basic Setup
- Open Newie → tap Sell → tap Services → tap New Service
- Select One-Off Purchase as the billing type
- Enter a Service Name - the title customers will see
- Set the Price
- Toggle Available for Sale to make the service purchasable
Optional Features
The following can be added to a one-off service:- Description: A short description of the service
- Add Fee to Price: Increases the price so that transaction fees are included. The customer sees a single, all-inclusive price
- Buy Now Pay Later: Customers can pay in installments through the BNPL method. You are funded upfront for the purchase amount, less applicable fees, while bank payout still follows the normal payout schedule. Available BNPL methods can include Afterpay/Clearpay, Klarna, and Affirm where eligible
- Terms of Service: Customers agree to your terms before purchase. Terms are fully customisable - use Newie’s default terms or add your own custom terms. An additional 0.4% fee applies when Terms of Service is enabled
- Welcome Email: Customers receive the Welcome Email immediately after purchase or sign up. Customers can reply to your email address
- Digital Download: The purchase confirmation email includes a download link to a digital file (eBook, PDF, Excel)
Creating Installment Plans
With Newie Installment Plans, a service is split into a fixed number of scheduled payments. You receive each payment as the customer makes it. This differs from Buy Now Pay Later, where you are funded upfront for the purchase amount, less applicable fees. To be funded upfront while offering customer financing, create a One-Off Service and enable Buy Now Pay Later instead.Basic Setup
- Open Newie → tap Sell → tap Services → tap New Service
- Select Installment Plan as the billing type
- Enter a Service Name - the title customers will see
- Set the Price, Billing Period, and Number of Payments - the installment amount is calculated automatically
- Toggle Available for Sale to make the service purchasable
Optional Features
The following can be added to an installment plan:- Description: A short description of the service
- Add Fee to Price: Increases the price so that transaction fees are included. The customer sees a single, all-inclusive price
- Billing Starts: Choose when installment payments start - on the date customers purchase, or a delayed start date
- Available for Sale: Customers can purchase the service. Services are only accessible by direct link unless added to the Store
